Does my child have to be Catholic to attend Shakopee Area Catholic School?

No. We accept students of all religious backgrounds.

Does your preschool program follow a typical school calendar?

Our preschool program runs in conjunction with our K-8 grade school year, which is typically after Labor Day through early June.

Are your teachers licensed? Is your school accredited?

Our teachers are all licensed through the State of Minnesota in the areas that they teach, and over 80% of our teachers have advanced degrees. Shakopee Area Catholic School is accredited by MNSAA (Minnesota Non-public School Accrediting Association). Our preschool programs are nationally accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and recognized by the Archdiocese as a Faithful Beginnings preschool.  

Do you offer busing for students?

There is no busing for preschool students. K-8 grade students, within district boundaries, are provided busing through Palmer Bus Service.

Do you follow the state curriculum standards required by the State of Minnesota?

Yes. We follow the same state standards as the public schools.

Where do students tend to go to high school after they graduate from Shakopee Area Catholic School?

Our students are very well prepared for the next step in their educational journey. Our graduates attend a variety of high schools, including, Academy of Holy Angels, St. Thomas Academy, Benilde St. Margaret’s, Holy Family Catholic High School, Chesterton Academy, Shakopee High School, and Prior Lake High School.

Do your students wear uniforms?

Preschool students do not wear a uniform.  Students in K-8 do wear uniforms.   (Link to the uniform pages for Elementary and Middle School).

Do you offer any special services?

We have a full time special education teacher as well as a part-time speech pathologist in our school.  Additionally, we have a special services director who coordinate these services for students in K-8th grade.

Do you have a gifted and talented program?

Yes. We have a full-time teacher dedicated to this program.

Do you offer before and after school care?

Before/after school care is offered to children grades PreK-5th grade during the school year. Care for children in grades PreK-5 is provided onsite through the YMCA School Age Care program. Before school care is offered between 6:15am-school start time, and after school care is offered after school-6:15pm.

What is your average class size?

For preschool, the maximum is 18 students per 2 teachers. For K-8, our average class size is 21 students. We have three sections in each grade.

How many students do you have at your school?

We have about 700 students PreK-8th grade.

What are your school hours?

Half-Day Preschool is 8:30am-11:30am (either M/W/F or Tu/Th)

Full-Day Preschool is 9:05am-3:45pm

Elementary is 9:05am-3:45pm

Middle School is 7:45am-2:25pm
