Three in One
Three Parishes in Shakopee support the unified vision and development of Shakopee Area Catholic School mission and initiatives.
St. Mark's has many Masses each week, many pastoral services, a consolidated Catholic school (pre-K through 8th grade) and faith formation program. St. Mark's has Children's Liturgies on the Second Sunday of the month at the 9 am Mass. Kids proclaim the readings and act out the Gospel. We also offer Sunday School for 3, 4 & 5 year olds during the 9 am Mass (Sept.-May). Our parish was established in 1856. Our beautiful German Gothic Church was built in 1865. The stained glass windows are literally from a family chapel of Emperor Franz Josef of Austria.
Church of St. Mary of the Purification
St. Mary of the Purification, also known as the Marystown Church, was founded in 1855 by Benedictine Father George Keller along with 30 families. Marystown now includes 275 families. Our beautiful church was built in 1883, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Recently, we began renovations to the inside of the church and, in keeping with the historical nature of our church, added a 100-year-old stained glass window depicting the crucifixion. More renovations are planned for 2010. We are located six miles south of the city of Shakopee out in the country on Marystown Road (County hwy. 15). Every year all our parishioners join together for our famous parish festival which is held the third Sunday in August.
St. Mary's opened its doors in 1865 to kindle the spirit our Catholic faith. We look back at our parish history and realize the tremendous growth we have achieved as a family. Our liturgical and spiritual past, is one built on guidance from our heavenly Father and the breadth of Tradition deposited and entrusted to us. While nourishing us with His sacraments our Lord Jesus has led us down many paths. Through the Spirit, we have experienced the purest of love. This unconditional love ignites our passion for understanding, and continues to build our need to fulfill His will. Our congregation continues to grow in love and understanding. We have built this website so that our sharing of faith can extend to all members of Gods family. It is our hope and prayer, that you will receive the many gifts waiting for you in accordance with God's plan. May the Lord continue to watch over you, and guide you through life's journey.
