SACS Curriculum - Math
Shakopee Area Catholic School Math Overview
We believe that Saxon Math, because of its unique approach to learning and mastering concepts over time, is the program that best meets the mathematical learning needs of our students. We believe students can learn to improve their abilities to compute, become problem-solvers, work individually and collaboratively, and communicate mathematical ideas verbally and in writing through this incremental or cyclical program wherein review is constant and ongoing. We believe that an active hands-on process of learning is necessary for students to achieve success in mathematics.
As stated in the Saxon philosophy, the focus of class time is to provide the maximum opportunity for students to work productively on the prescribed problems. SACS teachers have always been pleased with the level of mastery children bring with them to the next grade level. We are pleased with the generally high performance children routinely demonstrate on the math portion of the MAP testing as well as other forms of standardized testing. We have also been complimented by the public schools (and private high schools) on how well prepared out students are when they leave SACS and enter Jr. or Sr. high.
