Introduction of PIP

Administrator Report
Ø
SACS
held their first annual Chili cook off.
Mrs. Dapper’s class won. They are
thinking about having a dessert contest
for the next Spirit Wear day.
Ø
The
end of the 2nd quarter was 1/16/09.
Report cards should go out on Thursday (1/22/09).
Ø
Sunday,
January 25th is the annual Pancake Breakfast and SACS Open
House. It is also the kick-off to
Catholic Schools Week.
Ø
The
enrollment process for the 2009/2010 school year also starts on 1/25/09. Please get all your registration paperwork in
as soon as you can.
Ø
The
economic conditions make it difficult for families to keep up with the tuition
costs. Please talk to administration if
you need any kind of tuition assistance.
There is a lot of help available.
Ø
SACS
is in the process of unveiling a new SCRIP program. A percentage of the sales would go back to
the family who sold the SCRIP to offset their tuition costs. This program is still in the works. Look for more information on this in the
future.
Ø
SACS
received a $12,500 donation to help outfit all Middle School classrooms with
Smart Boards (interactive white board).
Thanks to the generous donator!
Ø
Administration
is also working on a new website.
Parents will be able to interact with the classrooms, see grades, check
lunch account balances, etc. The plan is
to have a demonstration of this new website at the February PIP meeting.
Ø
The
new AR program has switched over. Some
teachers have given parents’ passwords to access the AR program. Parents can see a list of the AR books and
check on their child’s activity.
GUEST SPEAKERS
4th Grade Teachers – Connie
Mendez & Kerry Joyce
Ø
Fourth
grade is an important year for parents to help their child become more
independent.
Ø
Make
sure your 4th grader is writing down assignments in their planner.
Ø
Students
should be able to get their own things together, do homework and go through
their back packs on their own.
Ø
Mrs.
Joyce suggested reading 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens written by
Steven Covey. There is a lot of
interesting information that can help parents as their 4th graders
are getting closer to those teenage years.
Ø
Many
4th graders may still need help with long range assignments and AR
goals. Make sure they are not saving all
the work for the night before the assignment or AR points are due.
Ø
It’s
OK if your 4th grader occasionally forgets an assignment, library
book, etc. They learn from their
mistakes. Teachers do not expect their
students to be perfect.
Ø
Mrs.
Mendez suggested reading Insightful Parenting by Dr. Steve Kahn.
Ø
Remember
to keep in touch with your child’s teacher.
They are there to help everyone have a successful 4th grade
year.
Ø
Thanks
Mrs. Mendez and Mrs. Joyce for your very helpful information!
COMMITTEE
REPORTS/FUND REQUESTS
Staff
Luncheon – Sherry Consoer
Ø The annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon will take place on Wednesday,
January 28th (possibly switching to Jan 27th).
Ø Sherry received a reasonable quote from Zuppa Cacina here in
Shakopee. They will have a sandwich and
wrap tray, tomato basil and wild rice soup, a lettuce salad, and Italian
chopped chicken salad and all the paper products for under $700.
Ø Sherry is also looking into providing a different type of dessert this
year other than cookies. Someone suggest
mini cheesecake bites.
Ø Sherry also needs volunteers to help out from about 10am to 1:30pm on the
day of the luncheon. Please let her or
one of the PIP chairs know if you are interested in helping.
Ø A fund request in the amount of $700 was made to cover the cost of the
luncheon. All were in favor and the
motion was passed.
Family
Fun Night – Jami Tetzloff
Ø Jami is looking for someone to take over as chair of this event.
Ø The school is already reserved for April 24th and Jami has all
her information neatly organized in a binder.
She is willing to work along side anyone who would be interested in
taking it over.
Ø Many people have signed up to help with this event. If we can not find a chair, maybe each person
will be in charge of one part of the night.
Ø Spread the word to see if anyone you know would be interested in chairing
this event. It is a wonderful, free
family event that we would hate to see go away.
Book
Fair – Donna Korum
Ø This year the annual book fair will have a “Safari” theme.
Ø Everyone is busy getting the library all set up. Mrs. Lennox’s fifth graders are hand drawing
and hand painting the artwork.
Ø Volunteers are needed on 1/20/09 through 1/25/09 to help with the book
fair. Contact Donna if you are
interested in helping. A sign up sheet
was also sent home.
Child
Care during PIP Meetings.
Ø Child care was available during this month’s meeting. Nobody signed up to use it. We will try to have it available again for
February’s meeting.
Ø Contact Kristin Paul at 952-233-2548 or knpaul@comcast.net as soon as you know if
you will be needing child care for the February 10th meeting.
PIP
Chair Elections
Ø The PIP Chair and Secretary
positions are up for election this year.
Nominations will be accepted up through April and elections will be held
at the May 12th meeting. Let
us know if you are interested in becoming a part of the PIP board.
Next
month’s meeting is Tuesday, February 10th. Hope
to see you there! Bring a friend.
Meeting
Adjourned around 8:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted, Kristin Paul
